In the past couple of days a few things happened to make me want to inform the general public about things that are learned through pageantry that apply to every day life. People look at us (title holders, contestants, etc.) and want to judge. "What 'they' are doing is antiquated!", "What 'they' are doing is demeaning to women!", "What 'they' are doing has no bearing on real life."
I BEG TO DIFFER!!!
What 'we' are doing is in fact not only a part of the times we live in, but is integral to being a complete person who contributes to society. 'We' put ourselves out there and use our voice to speak for so many who haven't one on a daily basis. 'We' have jobs, husbands, children, our children's activities, yet we still find time to serve our platforms and make regular appearances for any and all charities that ask. 'We' pop and tape our blisters from living in heels, eat a salad or a can of tuna when we are dying to gorge on a pizza or a hamburger and get up every day at 4:30a or 5a to be in the gym, because that's the only time we can get there, while 'you' lay in bed and hit the snooze for the third time...which by the way, 'we' envy you for!
'We' have learned through our coaches, for me it's Valerie Hayes, to be true and honest to who 'we' are when being interviewed, which is by EVERYONE 'we' speak with and not just judges during competition, but to be true and honest with our opinion without being offensive...try walking that line at the end of a 16 hour day on your 3rd appearance speaking with about the 500th person trying to find fault with you! This point is what actually brought today's blog about. I have a Facebook page that I encourage clean and open debate upon. I LOVE it when opinions in direct opposition to mine are voiced as it allows me to see a different side and upon occasion change my view point. However, when name calling ensues I delete the string immediately as that is so very unnecessary! As pointed out above it is beyond important to be able to intelligently articulate your point without being nasty or offensive. I was told, it seems like a zillion years ago, if you have a real and true point you can whisper it and it will be heard. If you don't you can yell and it still won't make a difference. Resorting to name calling is not something 'we' do. 'We' consider that bullying and bullying is not tolerated.
Now, I know that this may sound like I am complaining...I am NOT!!! I just wanted to take this opportunity to educate some of you who may wonder who 'we' are and what 'we' do on just a little bit of it!
Have an exceptional weekend!!! Much love and light to you all and may God bless and keep you!
XOXO
Thank you for the very kind shoutout! You are an impressive woman who supports and encourages the success of others - even those who you may be competing against. You represent the very best of pageantry!
